The Coiltech is widely regarded as one of the most specialized trade fairs for coil winding, electric motors, generators, and transformers. Following its successful launch in Ulm in 2022, the exhibition relocated to Augsburg in 2023, a strategically located hub for the German-speaking industrial region and a key venue for continued growth.

This year, a dedicated industry session on the strategic importance of rare earth elements (REEs) in modern motor technologies will take place on 25 March 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm as part of Coiltech Germany. The event features key experts and partners from the REEsilience project, underscoring the project’s role in strengthening resilient and sustainable rare earth value chains for Europe.

The session will open with “Why Rare Earths Matter” (15:00–15:10) by Neda Bahremandi from project partner REIA, including an introduction to Rare Earth Industry Association (REIA) and the strategic relevance of rare earths to the motor industry.

At 15:10, Gareth Hatch, a REEsilience partner, will present “From Mine to Magnet – Rare Earths Supply Chain,” examining global supply dynamics and security challenges. This will be followed at 15:30 by David Schuller, who will discuss the role of rare earth permanent magnets in electric motors in “The Magnet Behind the Motion.” At 15:50, REEsilience Project Coordinator Carlo Burkhardt will address sustainability and innovation in “Designing for the Future: Recycling and Circular Supply Chains.”

The session will conclude with a panel discussion from 16:10 to 17:00, titled “Securing the Future: How Can the Motor Industry Adapt?” The panel, featuring REEsilience partners Gareth Hatch, Carlo Burkhardt and David Schuller, will be moderated by Ben Davies and will explore how the motor industry can enhance resilience through collaboration, innovation, and circular approaches.
