SUMMARY:EIT RawMaterials Summit
DESCRIPTION:Global shifts\, from geopolitical tensions to climate challenges\, redefine Europe’s economic landscape. Critical raw materials (CRMs) are no longer just an industry concern—they are essential to Europe’s competitiveness\, strategic autonomy\, and green transition. \nWith 80–100% import dependency on many CRMs\, the European Competitiveness Compass highlights the urgent need to secure supply chains\, diversify partnerships\, and accelerate a circular economy. Action is needed now to drive industrial innovation and resilience. \nJoin over 1\,000 participants\, including industry leaders\, innovators\, and policymakers in Brussels\, 13–15 May 2025\, to connect\, collaborate\, and address the most pressing topics for our sector\, including: \n\nFunding innovation to drive breakthrough research and industrial adoption\nUnlocking circular economies and Europe’s resource potential\nTraining the workforce needed for a net-zero industrial future\nBuilding partnerships that drive meaningful progress and shared benefits\n\n  \nRegister here: https://eitrmsummit.com/registration

SUMMARY:MAGELLAN Round Table: Policy and regulations for a viable magnet recycling industry in Europe
DESCRIPTION:To establish a viable permanent magnet recycling industry in Europe\, both clear policy frameworks and targeted research efforts are essential. \nSupportive policies should include standardised waste collection systems for end-of-life products containing rare earth magnets\, incentives for manufacturers to incorporate recycled materials\, and regulations that promote circular economy practices\, cross-Europe collaboration\, and the traceability of rare earth elements. \nEqually important is substantial investment in research and innovation to close existing technological gaps and develop efficient\,  viable\, and sustainable recycling processes across the entire value chain. Strong support from both the EU and national institutions will be necessary to ensure Europe remains competitive and resilient in critical raw materials. \nUnder the leadership of EIT RawMaterials’ Rare Earths SIGN initiative and the coordinator of the MAGELLAN project – ORANO\,  four leading European magnet recycling projects – MAGELLAN\, REESILIENCE\, HARMONY\, and PERMANET – will come together to explore these regulatory and research challenges\, and outline the steps needed to enable a robust permanent magnet recycling ecosystem in Europe. \nAfter an overview of the actions needed to improve the recycling of permanent magnets\, based on the perspectives of each project\, the industrial groups involved will exchange their views on all these subjects during a panel discussion. \n  \nREEsilience project coordinator Prof. Dr. Carlo Burkhardt from Pforzheim University will also be part of the Session that takes place on May 15 2025 from 11 – 12:30 CET.
