SUMMARY:MAGELLAN Round Table: Policy and regulations for a viable magnet recycling industry in Europe
DESCRIPTION:To establish a viable permanent magnet recycling industry in Europe\, both clear policy frameworks and targeted research efforts are essential. \nSupportive policies should include standardised waste collection systems for end-of-life products containing rare earth magnets\, incentives for manufacturers to incorporate recycled materials\, and regulations that promote circular economy practices\, cross-Europe collaboration\, and the traceability of rare earth elements. \nEqually important is substantial investment in research and innovation to close existing technological gaps and develop efficient\,  viable\, and sustainable recycling processes across the entire value chain. Strong support from both the EU and national institutions will be necessary to ensure Europe remains competitive and resilient in critical raw materials. \nUnder the leadership of EIT RawMaterials’ Rare Earths SIGN initiative and the coordinator of the MAGELLAN project – ORANO\,  four leading European magnet recycling projects – MAGELLAN\, REESILIENCE\, HARMONY\, and PERMANET – will come together to explore these regulatory and research challenges\, and outline the steps needed to enable a robust permanent magnet recycling ecosystem in Europe. \nAfter an overview of the actions needed to improve the recycling of permanent magnets\, based on the perspectives of each project\, the industrial groups involved will exchange their views on all these subjects during a panel discussion. \n  \nREEsilience project coordinator Prof. Dr. Carlo Burkhardt from Pforzheim University will also be part of the Session that takes place on May 15 2025 from 11 – 12:30 CET.

SUMMARY:The rare earth mining and processing in Europe: the way forward
DESCRIPTION:The fourth webinar of the Rare Earth Roundtable Series by EIT RawMaterials powered by the MAGELLAN is about the mining and processing of the rare earths in the EU. Europe possesses several known deposits of rare earth elements (REEs)\, but the continent has historically been reliant on imports\, particularly from China. Recent geopolitical and economic shifts have emphasised the need for Europe to develop its own rare earth supply chain. Europe is making progress toward establishing a sustainable rare earth supply chain. \nThe webinar will discuss the mining\, processing and market challenges as many European deposits contain mixed rare earth ores requiring complex separation processes. Mining techniques need to be optimised to balance economic feasibility with environmental sustainability. \nDon’t miss your chance to connect with key players in the rare earth magnets and motors communities\, engage in dynamic discussions with experts\, and influence strategic conversations that matter to decision-makers across Europe! \nThe rare earth mining and processing in Europe: the way forward\nDate: 20 March 2025\nTime: 13:00–14:30 CET \nSpeakers include:\nFrédéric Carencotte\, Founder\, Carester\nCynthia Portefaix\, Head of Business Development\, ORANO\nTore Malo Ødegård\, Chief Financial Officer\, Rare Earths Norway AS \nModerated by Philippe Giaro\, Senior Research Officer\, University of Liège \n  \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Success Stories of Supply Chain Responsibility (Networking & Workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Responsible supply chains and due diligence are more crucial in today’s business landscape. Germany and France already implemented regulations that enforce supply chain responsibility\, and the European Union is currently preparing a directive on supply chain due diligence. Many companies perceive this as an additional burden and fear about their global competitiveness. However\, other companies took the lead and turned responsibility into a strategic success factor. REEsilience plays a crucial role in rare earth magnet supply chains. \nFrontrunners in supply chain responsibility are working more closely with their strategic suppliers\, understanding their competitive situation and technologies\, and collaborating with them on improvements that no company could achieve without active engagement with its supply chain. They can develop and make it more resilient because they have an overview of their entire supply network. For example\, some have invested in suppliers and moved production back to Europe. This reduces complexity\, secures the supply of raw materials and intermediates\, simplifies communication and increases responsiveness. It also makes them more attractive to their customers by making them more reliable and responsive. \nThe Institute for Managing Sustainability analyzed 12 cases of highly successful supply chain responsibility. The key results of this study\, which was funded by the Austrian Ministry of Labour and Economy\, will be presented at a workshop and networking event on Sept 22 at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. At this event\, you will \n\nExplore how highly successful companies understood responsibility as a strategic success factor and developed innovative solutions.\nGain insights into the business case of responsible supply chain management and learn how leadership pays off\nDiscuss how you can successfully implement similar measures in your company\n\nPlease note that this workshop will be held in the course of the RE-SOURCING Conference at the Vienna University of Economics and Business from 21-22 September at the Vienna University of Business and Economics and that places are limited.

SUMMARY:ISIE 2023
DESCRIPTION:ISIE2023\, to be held in Leiden 2-5 July 2023\, is the 11th biennial conference of the International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE). The theme of the conference is “Transitions in a world in turmoil”: The way we use energy and resources in our present system is not sustainable. SUMMARY:IRTC 2023 – Raw Materials for a Sustainable Future
DESCRIPTION:The IRTC 2023 conference\, 15-17 February in Lille\, is an interactive platform that serves as a compass for material risks in global industry and research. It brings together representatives from industry\, academia and governmental and non-governmental organisations to exchange ideas and applications. Conference sessions will alternate between moderated panel discussions\, lectures and direct exchanges with and between experts. \nIRTC23 will be all about dialogue on raw materials for a sustainable future. Raw materials play an important role in economic and technological development of\, among others\, the renewable & digital transition. At the same time\, supply of many raw materials heavily depends on precarious and unsustainable supply chains. This conference brings together international leading experts\, practitioners and participants\, to exchange perspectives and engage in in-depth discussions on how to assess and manage raw materials and criticality\, and to explore the potential of different strategies to secure supply. Therefore\, IRTC23 welcomes a diverse audience from industry\, academics and policy-making concerned with raw materials for a sustainable future. \nThe global network “International Round Table on Materials Criticality” (IRTC)\, funded by EIT RawMaterials\, has a crucial role in the international debate on criticality. In IRTC\, leading experts and developers of criticality methodologies discuss different perspectives and requirements of robust criticality assessments\, bridging academic expertise and industry practice. \nREEsilience partner REIA will also be part of this event. \nFor more info and registration\, please visit: https://www.irtc-conference.org/
